Egg Tempera Painting

Have you wanted to try this technique? Here is your chance. In this 5 week block you will learn how to mix your own from pigments and egg tempera. You will also be developing skills in composition and perspective, while creating the illusion of 3-dimensional form on a 2-dimensional flat surface. We will explore how different viewpoints affect linear perspective and horizon position while using vanishing lines to creative depth and perspective. We will work from a range of subject matter incorporating these rules of perspective, taking inspiration from several Renaissance artists including Giotto, Raphael and Botticelli. The traditional medium of egg tempera creates a luminosity like no other paints.

Tuesdays 1pm – 3:30pm

$265 includes all tuition, materials, and afternoon tea

FABRIC DYEING AND PRINTING

Let’s play with fabric! We will explore the works of textile arts by using commercial and natural dyes on cotton and calico. After fabrics are dyed, we will then apply printing techniques such as lino blocks or screen printing. Would you like to design and make your own fabric for a garment or throw pillow? Maybe you have a piece of clothing that you would like to upcycle? Throughout this course we will learn about the effects that commercial and natural dyes have on fabric (Did you know that apple leaves make a gorgeous orange colour?). We will use Lino printing, embroidery, and embellishments to enhance our fabric. Finally, we will explore sewing techniques to construct your design. Your design can be simple and minimalistic or complex and dynamic. Join us on Thursday mornings.

What will it be? A box, small table or group of small sculptures? In this class we are painting objects to transform their life and significance. Surface decoration can enhance the three-dimensional qualities and /or create illusions that take the object well beyond it’s original function and appearance. Techniques will be explored to create a compelling design and a lasting surface, using acrylic paints and mediums. You will have time to prepare the surface, before applying several layers of paint to create a fabulous finished product. Please bring your object along.
